Murray Student Killed In Labor Day Weekend Crash

A Murray State University freshman student died in a car accident over the weekend in Grayson County.

Murray State Radio WKMS reports Interim President Bob Jackson said in a campus email Monday that 18-year old Joseph Pennington was killed Friday afternoon in Grayson County on the Western Kentucky Parkway while heading home for the holiday weekend.

Pennington was a biology pre-med major and wanted to become a surgeon, according to the university.

Grayson County Sheriff’s Office reports, a car driven by Pennington, was heading east on the Western Kentucky Parkway when it crossed the median and struck a pickup truck around the 106.5-mile marker.

Pennington and the other driver were taken to University Hospital in Louisville. Pennington succumbed to his injuries Saturday.
