Four men and a woman were arrested in Hopkins County Thursday on various charges, including trafficking meth and fleeing from police.
The Madisonville-Hopkins County Vice/Narcotics unit was conducting surveillance in the area of Murray Street in Madisonville around noon when officers saw 35-year old Christopher Branson driving a vehicle. Detectives verified he had an active warrant for not reporting to jail, and also that was driving on a DUI suspended license. When detectives tried to make pull him over, he failed to stop and after a short pursuit down Island Ford Road, Branson pulled into Cross Creek Apartments where officers say he resisted arrest when he was placed into custody. He was lodged in the Hopkins County Jail charged with driving on a DUI suspended license, fleeing or evading police, resisting arrest and served the Hopkins County warrant.
Around 3:00 p.m., detectives observed 31-year old Anthony Simms driving a vehicle and drifting into the opposite lane multiple times. Detectives tried to make a traffic stop, but Simms failed to pull over and led officers in a vehicle pursuit through the city of Earlington. Police say Simms then tried to flee on foot, but detectives were able to take him into custody. He was booked into the Hopkins County Jail charged with reckless driving, fleeing or evading police, second degree wanton endangerment, and disregarding a stop sign.
Around 5:30 p.m., detectives were conducting a surveillance in Morton’s Gap in the 100 block of Morton Street after receiving multiple Crime Stoppers tips regarding 25-year old Cameron and 54-year old Jeffrey Baldwin trafficking large amounts of synthetic drugs and methamphetamine from a residence. Police say Cameron Baldwin had seven active warrants for numerous felony cases in Hopkins County. Detectives saw Cameron entering the residence and tried to take him into custody, but he resisted arrest and was found hiding in a closet under clothes. Police say Cameron’s girlfriend, Morgan Davis, was also arrested for hindering prosecution.
During a search of the residence for Cameron Baldwin, officers reportedly found a bottle containing illegal pills and synthetic drugs lying in plain view. After getting a search warrant, detectives seized a substantial amount of synthetic drugs, meth and drug paraphernalia. Police say Jeffrey Baldwin was also arrested at the home on trafficking synthetic drugs, possession of meth and drug paraphernalia. Both men were lodged in the Hopkins County Jail. Cameron Baldwin was charged with resisting arrest, possession of synthetic drugs – second or greater offense, possession of a controlled substance, and served seven warrants.
