Man Clocked Speeding In School Zone Charged With DUI

A Pembroke man was charged with his fourth or greater DUI after deputies say he was stopped for speeding in a school zone.

The Christian County Sheriff’s Office says 54-year old Wilford Cross was clocked by radar traveling 53 mph in a 35 mph school zone on Pembroke Oak Grove Road. The vehicle was pulled over on Long Pond Road and when he got out of the vehicle he stumbled and deputies say he smelled of alcoholic beverages. Cross stated to deputies he had a beer before leaving his sister’s house in Oak Grove. Deputies say Cross couldn’t perform field sobriety tests and also stated he had taken a prescription drug issued for pain earlier in the day. Deputies also determined he the license plate on the vehicle was revoked by the Kentucky Department of Transportation, and came back belonging to a truck and not the vehicle Cross was driving.

Cross was lodged in the Christian County Jail charged with speeding in a school zone, failure to wear seatbelts, DUI 4th or greater offense, theft of a motor vehicle registration plate, and failure to maintain required insurance.
