Magistrates Vote to Leave Tax Rates Unchanged

Christian County Fiscal Court magistrates unanimously approved the first reading of the Fiscal Year 2019 tax ordinance during Tuesday morning’s meeting. Judge Executive Steve Tribble recommended the real estate and tangible tax rates stay the same as the Fiscal Year 2018. Assistant County Attorney John Soyars presented the tax rate ordinance to magistrates that will provide revenue for general purposes and maintenance for roads and bridges.

Judge Tribble noted the second reading of the tax rate ordinance will be at the next meeting.


In other business, magistrates accepted two bids for the replacement of lighting at the Christian County Justice Center to be paid for by the Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC). Thomas Walden with WBW Engineering on Canton Street said the bids are for materials and installation for relighting the courtrooms upstairs.

The bids were awarded to Cayce Mill Supply to provide the materials in an amount over $141,000, and Five Star Electric to install the lighting for an amount of nearly $27,000.


Magistrates also approved a change order to the contract for the Alhambra Theatre renovation in an amount up to $180,000. Magistrate Darryl Gustafson explained that they ran into some unexpected safety issues in the 90-year old building that need to be made, including the lobby floor was rotted out.
