School Board To Hold Public Hearing For Tax Levy Thursday

The Christian County Board of Education will hold a public hearing Thursday afternoon to hear public comments regarding a proposed general fund tax levy of 42.8 cents on real property and 42.8 cents on personal property.

School officials say the General Fund tax levied in fiscal year 2018 was 41.6 cents on real property and 41.6 cents on personal property, produced revenue of more than $15.1 million. The proposed General Fund tax rate of 42.8 cents for both real property and personal property is expected to produce $15.6 million dollars. Of this amount, officials indicate more than $2.1 million dollars is from new and personal property. The compensating rate for fiscal year 2019 is 41.2 cents on real property and 41.6 cents on personal property is expected to produce over $15.1 million.

According to school officials, the general areas to which revenues of more than $581,872.24 above 2018 revenues are to be allocated are as follows: cost of collections $23,279; building fund $55,388; instruction $503,320.24.

The public hearing will be held at the Board of Education on Glass Avenue at 5:30 Thursday afternoon prior to the regular school board meeting.
