UPDATE – One Dead, Another Injured In Woodland Heights Fire

A Hopkinsville man died and another person was critically injured in a fire at Woodland Heights Apartments on the Greenville Road.  Christian County Deputy Coroner Mike Stokes identified the victim as 25-year-old David Michael Keys of 134 Windsor Drive.

Stokes says the fire occurred at 2850 Greenville Road in apartment G of Woodland Heights apartment complex.  Stokes said the possible cause of death is smoke inhalation, with an autopsy to be conducted Tuesday at the regional medical examiners office in Madisonville.  He said Kentucky State Police and the State Fire Marshall’s Office are investigating the fire.

Hopkinsville Fire Department Public Information Officer Captain Michael Pendleton says ambulances were dispatched to the apartment complex around 2:15 Tuesday morning due to the fire.

Pendleton says one person was dead when the ambulance arrived, with a second patient transported to the helipad at Jennie Medical Center to be transported to an area hospital.  The Christian County Coroner’s Office was called to the scene to pronounce the first victim dead.

Three ambulances responded to the scene, with Pendleton noting Highland Fire Department is fighting the fire and in charge of the scene.

No other details have been released about the fire.
