A couple escaped injury when their house boat caught fire Friday afternoon in Clarksville.

Clarksville Police Public Information Officer Jim Knoll reports Robert and Yvonne Workman had pulled their house boat from the Clarksville Marina dock at 12:30 p.m. when the motor shut down about 200 yards into the channel. As they tried to restart the motor, Knoll says something blew up and a fire broke out. Mr. Workman reportedly grabbed a fire extinguisher and then determined the fire was too large to put out with the extinguisher. The Workmans put on their life vests and safely abandoned the boat, which quickly became engulfed in flames.

Clarksville Fire Rescue arrived on the scene and put out the fire.

Knoll says the reason for the fire has not yet been determined.
