Kentucky State Police is investigating a Sunday pursuit and accident involving a Christian County Sheriff’s cruiser. Post Two Public Information Officer Trooper Rob Austin says the accident occurred around 3:30 in the area of East 20th and Alley Street in Hopkinsville.

According to the report from state police, the Christian County Sheriff’s Office was searching for a vehicle that had fled earlier in the afternoon. The suspect car, operated by 33-year-old April Stewart of Hopkinsville, ran a stop sign at a high rate of speed and hit the front of a Sheriff’s Department vehicle. Stewart then allegedly hit a house, then immediately struck the deputy’s vehicle again.

April Stewart was taken to Jennie Stewart Medical for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. The deputy involved in the wreck was not injured.

Although Kentucky State Police is investigating the collision, the Christian County Sheriff’s Department is seeking criminal charges against Stewart.
