Hopkinsville Man Charged With Trafficking Pot

A traffic stop early Sunday morning led to the arrest of a Hopkinsville man for DUI and trafficking marijuana.

Hopkinsville Police report the traffic stop happened shortly before 1:30 a.m. at North Drive and Glass Avenue after an officer observed a vehicle crossing over the center line. The driver allegedly failed to stop after the officer activated his emergency lights and siren and continued to turn onto North Drive. The officer says the driver, later identified as 19-year old Adrian Acree, then tossed out a plastic baggie out the passenger side window, which landed in the middle of the road. The vehicle then reportedly came to an abrupt stop. The officer says he smelled an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle as well as Acree, who also showed other signs of being under the influence of a narcotic.

During a search by a K-9 unit, marijuana was found as well as a half smoked blunt in the ashtray.

Acree was taken into custody and charged with Trafficking in Marijuana, Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence of Alcohol or Drugs, Tampering with Physical Evidence, and a couple of traffic-related offenses.
