Funeral Home Owner Remembered For Professional Manner

Former funeral home owner and past Christian County Coroner John Hughart is being remembered always treating people in a professional manner. Hughart was a native of Island, KY, was a veteran of the U.S. Navy where served in World War II, and was a graduate of the Kentucky School of Embalming. Hughart worked for Hughart Family Funeral Home from 1948 to 1958, then managed the Livermore branch of Muster Funeral Home from 1958 to 1964.

Hughart moved to Hopkinsville in 1964 and became owner of Hughart-Keightly Funeral Home that was located across from First Baptist Church. In 1969 he bought the old Wilson-Cobb home on South Viriginia Street, remodeled and enlarged it to accomodate the funeral home. In 1985, Hughart Funeral Home in Hopkinsville merged with Beard Funeral Home in Crofton, which is now Hughart, Beard and Giles Funeral Home.

In addition to his work in the funeral business, Hughart served as Christian County Coroner from 1973 until 1977.

In 2014 Hughart participated in Honor Flight Bluegrass for the World War II Memorial in Washington, DC, on the anniversary of D-Day in 2014.He is survived by his wife Louise Howard Hughart, a son, two daughters and their families and a number of grandchildren and other family members.
