A Madisonville man was arrested and charged after police say he put a fake explosive device inside a mailbox in the Columbus Circle neighborhood.

Madisonville Police report officers responded to the neighborhood around 10:30 Tuesday morning after receiving a call about a resident finding a suspicious package in a mailbox. Officers found the package and called for Criminal Investigators, Madisonville Fire Department, Med Center Ambulance Service and Owensboro Police Department’s bomb squad. Shortly after the bomb squad arrived, police say 39-year old Jerrod Larkins arrived on scene and said he placed the package in the mailbox as a prank. The package was reportedly removed from the mailbox and manipulated to ensure it was safe. Police indicate the package turned out to be a simulated explosive device.

Larkins was taken into custody and booked into the Hopkins County Jail charged with 2nd Degree Terroristic Threatening.
