Flooding near the lakes in western Kentucky could remain a concern for the next week. As the flooding continues to make its way down the Ohio River, both dams at Kentucky and Barkley Lakes will begin tapering off their releases. This means the pool levels on both lakes will begin to rise over the next couple of days.
The National Weather Service in Paducah is projecting the levels at Kentucky and Barkley Lakes will reach 366 feet this weekend. Normal winter pool on the lakes is 354 feet. Both lakes were at 357 feet Wednesday morning at 9:00am. If the lakes reach the projected 366 feet, it will be 7 feet about normal summer pool.
Officials say if you have property or campers along the lakes, prepare now for elevated pool levels.
