Two Tornadoes Hit Near Clarksville

The National Weather Service in Nashville confirmed Sunday that two tornadoes touched down Saturday night in Clarksville. The strongest tornado touched down shortly after 9:00 four miles east of Clarksville in Montgomery County on Dunbar Cave Road.

The storm survey team determined the first tornado was an EF-2 with peak winds of 125 miles per hour. The tornado touched down on Dunbar Cave Road then moved east northeast across Interstate 24 and came to an end on Kirkwood Road.

Trees were blown down north of Dunbar Cave Road and outbuildings damaged at Rossview High School. Three outbuildings were also damaged at an industrial complex east of I-24 and 75 vehicles in the parking lots were damaged. Dozens of homes were damaged or destroyed on Rollow Lane and in the Farmington subdivision with two injuries.

The twister stayed on the ground for more than four miles and left a 300 yard wide path of damage.

Meanwhile, an EF-1 tornado touched down around 8:50 near the Dotsonville community and moved northeast and ended near the Cumberland River.

A few homes suffered roof damage on Gip Manning Road and Hunting Creek Road. Up to 15 other homes sustained severe damage on Martin Road, Deepwood Drive and Deepwood Trail. Hundreds of trees were blown down along the path including on Bradley Martin Road and Rusty Lane.

That tornado packed peak winds of 105 miles per hour, was on the ground for 5 miles and left a 150 yard wide damage path.
