UPDATE – Student Arrested For CCHS Threat

The Christian County Sheriff's Office arrested a 15 year old juvenile Friday in reference to an alleged school threat made Thursday on the grounds of Christian County High School in Hopkinsville. The 15 year old student, whose name is being withheld, was charged with Terroristic Threatening 2nd and transported to McCracken Regional Juvenile Detention Center in Paducah, KY, where he will remain until his court date.

Christian County Sheriff's School Resource Officer Michelle Kent said a student at Christian County High School made threats to "bring a gun and shoot up the school." Authorities, acting on the information they received, took the student into custody on the school bus and questioned him about the incident. Detectives say the student admitted to making the statement, saying that it was "meant as a joke."

A Christian County Sheriff's Office news release says the incident was brought to light by students who overheard the comments and notified a teacher at the school.

Officials say they are thankful that those students acted responsibly and alerted the staff. Christian County Schools spokeswoman Heather Lancaster says a call was sent to parents around 9:45 Friday morning. She says the situation was quickly resolved and action was taken by law officials. Lancaster said everyone at the school is safe, and school is on regular schedule.
