County Leases My Old KY Home Amphitheater

An amphitheater at My Old Kentucky Home will have a new “resident” after being closed late last year, but for good reason. The stage is being leased to a Nelson County, who will pay for the renovations.

In December, the state said the J. Dan Talbott Amphitheater in Bardstown had been closed due to structural and electrical issues. At the time city and county government were concerned about the 60th anniversary showing of “The Stephen Foster Story.” Nelson County Judge Executive Dean Watts says the county will repair the theater to meet code requirements, allowing the musical to be performed this year.

After the season, the county plans to renovate the entire stage area. The state Tourism, Arts and Heritage Cabinet said the lease, which includes no financial terms, is for five years with the option for two additional five-year terms.
