Madisonville Man Charged With Possessing Stolen Firearm

A Madisonville man arrested on a warrant Wednesday morning was also charged for possessing a stolen firearm. Shortly before 11:30am, Madisonville Police went to the 100 block of South Franklin Street with an arrest warrant issued for 18-year old Quaray Hamlett regarding a charge of Receiving Stolen Property Under $10,000. Upon arrival, police made contact with the homeowner, who advised Hamlett was in the residence. Officers say Hamlet then exited out of a second story window with an assault rifle, at which time he was instructed to put the firearm down. However, police say Hamlett then went back into the home by breaking out a window, and he was arrested by officers inside the home.

During a search of the residence, officers reportedly found the assault rifle in Hamlett's possession which was determined to have been stolen from a car break-in on Bishop Street in Madisonville.

Hamlett was booked into the Hopkins County Jail with the original warrant, as well as Receiving Stolen Property – Firearm.
