New Home Internet Will Operate Much Like Cell Phones

A new internet service is aimed at making broadband accessibility more equal across Kentucky. AT&T announced Tuesday that Fixed Wireless Internet Service was coming to 51 counties. Kentucky President, Hood Harris says it is a way to get internet to rural areas in Kentucky that are typically hard to serve.

He adds the FCC is helping with the cost of the program.

Harris says the service will work off the cell towers like your phones.

AT&T has about 30 applications in for zoning approval to place new towers. Those will be utilized by the Fixed Wireless and the new First Net, which is a system designed for emergency response on a mass scale.
