Financial Literacy Could Soon Be Graduation Requirement

The Kentucky General Assembly is considering financial literacy as a requirement for high school graduation. Representatives Jim DuPlessis and James Tipton sponsored a bill making it mandatory for students to know about things like balancing checkbooks, taking out loans, and credit. House Bill 132 was approved by the House 68-24 last week.

The Kentucky Board of Education would be responsible for establishing standards and graduation requirements. The current bill, if passed, would begin with the freshman class of 2020-2021. It is now being considered by the Senate.
