Numerous Trigg County Races Contested

Nearly all offices in Trigg County are up for grabs after residents threw their names into the political ring. County Judge Executive Hollis Alexander will face Democratic challenger Ricky Calhoun in the November General Election. County Clerk Carmen Finley and Republican challenger Melissa Burgess will also appear on the November ballot. Circuit Clerk Pam Perry will see opposition from Republican Lisa Thomas in November.

PVA Michael Bryan won’t face a Democratic challenger. However, he will face the Republican choice following a May Primary between Lauren Fowler, James Kyler, and Tammy Groves. Jailer James Hughes also has no May Primary, but will campaign against a Republican in November. The decision of who will be made in May when voters choose William Eddie Proffitt or Perry Cox.

The race for Trigg County Sheriff is already heating up. Republican voters will have the option to re-elect Incumbent Ray Burnam II or elect current Hopkinsville Police Officer Jason Barnes in the May Primary.

All current Fiscal Court members filed for re-election, except District 7 Magistrate Donnie Tyler. Three newcomers filed for his seat: James Adams III, Mike Lane, and Mike Williamson. Adams and Lane will appear on the May Republican Primary ballot and the winner will face Williamson in November.
In District 2 former magistrate Republican Barry Littlejohn will challenge Democrat Scotty Hampton in the November General Election. In District 3 incumbent Jon Goodwin is facing a republican challenge from Cameron Sumner in the May Primary. In the 4th District incumbent Jeff Broadbent will face a challenge from Jock Bingham and Dale Henderson in the May Democratic Primary. In the 5th District, Magistrate John Gray will be challenged by Democrat Kenneth Cherry in May Primary, with the winner to face Republican Alana Baker in the November General Election.

Not facing opposition this year are County Attorney Randall Braboy, County Surveyor Randle Cruse, Coroner John Mark Vinson, 1st District Magistrate Mike Wright, 6th District Magistrate Larry Lawrence, and District Judge Jamus Redd.

District Judge Jill Clark announced she would not seek re-election and two people have filed for her seat. Natalie White and Jarrod Jackson will campaign for the 2nd District seat in the 56th Circuit.

Meanwhile, Cadiz Mayor Todd King has already made his intentions for re-election clear, filing within the first month of the period. The first candidate for City Council also declaring early. Wes Schermerhorn filed, though the non-partisan filing deadline isn’t until August.
