Hopkinsville Police Chief Encourages Communication

The Hopkinsville Police Chief says the best way to prevent a tragedy is to work together. Police Chief Clayton Sumner issued a statement on Facebook says “our hearts go out to all those impacted in yesterday’s tragic event in Marshall County.” He goes on to say he wants to thank those who saw the threat on social media from a Hopkinsville Middle School and “did the best thing you could, and that was to tell someone and notify police.”

He says “in a world that involves so much communication over social media, it is important that we teach children if you see or hear anything, report it! Never just assume it is just a joke.” One of the best ways to prevent tragedy, he says is to work together to help protect one another.

Sumner writes contact police immediately at 911 or 270-890-1300 or by sending the text to “CRIMES” (274637) and entering “hpdtip” in the text, followed by the tip information.
