Blue Moon Ball Coming Soon to Elkton
Tickets are now on sale for the 10th Blue Moon Ball.
The Green River Academy Preservation Society, along with Novelis and Belanger Converter Recycling, present the “Blue Moon Ball.” Now in its 10th year, the charity fundraiser will be held on Saturday, Oct 15, 7PM at the Milliken Memorial Community House in Elkton, Kentucky to raise funds for the preservation of the Green River Academy Historic Site.
This year’s theme is “An All Hallows Gala,” and will feature live music and dancing to Nashville’s high energy dance band, “Stretta.” Attendees will be treated to heavy hors d’oeuvres crafted by local restaurant Billy Goat Hill, featuring locally sourced gourmet catering. Guests will also enjoy an open bar with themed cocktails.
The Blue Moon Ball, along with other Green River Academy Preservation Society events and programs, raise monies for the preservation of the historic site.  Recent endeavors include the recent publication of the book “Notables of Todd County,” written by local author Carolyn Wells, “Art Strong” youth art classes, and a murder mystery dinner program.
Founded in 1835 on Goebel Ave. in Elkton, the Green River Academy was once a prominent educational institution for girls and was later converted into a coeducational institution after the American Civil War, with alumni attending Harvard, Yale, and Columbia Universities, producing notable alumni including authors, business leaders and notably, a United States Supreme Court Justice.
Today, the Academy is being restored with plans for the building to become an active center for arts, education, and culture.
This festive evening welcomes both Preservation Society members and members of the community to attend. Tickets are $75 each and can be purchased at Elkton City Hall.
