Cadiz Thrives with Festivities at 48th Trigg County Country Ham Festival

On Saturday, downtown Cadiz was bustling with crowds enjoying another successful Trigg County Country Ham Festival, which featured carnival rides, food and craft vendors, contests, live music, and more.

Saturday marked the second day of the 48th festival, highlighting the making and cooking of the largest ham and biscuit in the Bank of Cadiz parking lot.

The day also included the 2nd Annual Country Ham Biscuit Eating Contest, during which Cadiz-Trigg County Tourism Director Beth Sumner announced that the winner was just a few bites away from finishing 10 country ham biscuits.

Scott Brown, representing Trigg County EMS, devoured six country ham biscuits, while Paxton Redd, representing The Way Christian Life Center, consumed five.

According to Sumner, nine participants were new this year, with Trigg County Sheriff Aaron Acree, representing Special Olympics, being the only returning contestant. Alongside Fourquean, Stewart, Brown, and Redd, the other new contestants included:

– Jamie Gapp, representing the Back to Back Foundation

– Daniel Hardy, representing Helping Hands

– Tulsa Lewis, representing the Pink Ribbon Network

– Rex Booth, representing Beta Nu Angel Tree

The country ham and biscuit eating contest was sponsored by the Trigg County Chamber of Commerce.

The festival also hosted the 2nd Annual Mullet Contest, sponsored by Wildcat Chevrolet, and the 2nd Annual Beard Contest, sponsored by Hometown Auto and H&R Agri-Power.

By mid-afternoon on Saturday, Shannon Booth reported that sales of the Country Ham Festival t-shirts had been strong.

If you missed the festivities on Friday and Saturday, you can still enjoy the Great American Carnival rides and some vendors, which will be set up in West Cadiz Park from 1:00 to 4:00 on Sunday afternoon.
