Pennyrile Electric and HES Customers To Feel TVA Rate Increase In October

Pennyrile Electric customers will feel the effects of a TVA rate increase when they pay their electric bills in October.

Pennyrile Electric Vice-President of Member Services Brent Gilkey says TVA’s recent announcement of a 5.25% wholesale rate increase, to fund ongoing construction and energy development, will be reflected on Pennyrile Electric member’s bills beginning October 1st. In addition, Gilkey says there will also be an increase to the monthly customer charge in the amount of $3.00 to aid Pennyrile Electric in recovering rising fixed costs. The average monthly residential bill will have an overall increase of $7.00 – $8.00, depending on usage.

Giley says even though Pennyrile Electric’s adjusted residential rate remains 36% below the national average price per kWh, they understand the impacts on families in our communities due to this current change. As rates may change with time, one thing that remains the same is the commitment to providing members with safe and reliable energy.

To assist with managing energy usage, Pennyrile Electric members are encouraged to take advantage of current energy efficiency programs and incentives offered through TVA’s energyright program. Information can be found at energyright.com or by calling your local Pennyrile Electric office.

HES General Manager Jeff Hurd said the Hopkinsville utility is one of 152 TVA power distributors in the seven-state service area that will see a rate increase.

Hurd said HES will be implementing an increase to its bill which will result in a $6.48 increase to the monthly electric bill of the average residential customer. He also said HES still remains one of the lowest cost electric power providers not only in western Kentucky but throughout the TVA seven-state region.
