Life changed rapidly for Christian County Public Schools this past summer, when officials and administration embraced the complete relocation and renovation of three facilities — including new bathrooms, band rooms, walls up, and walls down across the district.

That hard work opened fully to the public Monday morning with CCPS’s first day of school, especially with a number of new fifth graders at Indian Hills Elementary School, now on Koffman Drive.

Mrs. Amanda Adams, a Trigg County native, has been with CCPS for more than a decade.

She teaches writing as one of four fifth grade educators in a rotation before a special period for students. She also got to see firsthand all of the changes after leaving Brady Lane and moving into the former Hopkinsville Middle School.

An excited mother, Alsonetta, didn’t shed many tears, either, after dropping off a pair of kindergartners and her proud fifth grader.

Ashton Brady, a new assistant principal for Indian Hills, said the new building looks completely different even just from the time she interviewed with the school.

Johnna Brown, communication director for CCPS, noted the literal “red carpet” was rolled out for students this year — with first-day jitters at a minimum.

Indian Hills Principal Sarah Johnson said she wishes “so much” for her staff and her students, and that the first day sets the tone for the year.

School officials at Indian Hills were alerted to the smell of gas outside the school this morning shortly after 7:30.

The Hopkinsville Fire Department responded along with maintenance from Christian County Public Schools. The building and grounds were thoroughly checked and determined to be safe. The smell of gas was not from anything in the school or on the campus. The students and staff are safe, and school will proceed as normal. The safety of our students and staff will always remain our number one priority.
