Hoptown Idol Karaoke Competition Rules and Regulations

No entry fee.

Contest will be held starting at 6 pm on Friday, September 13th, 2024 outside at Founders Square, 198 W. 9th Street, Hopkinsville, KY. In the event of inclement weather, the contest may be rescheduled.

Contestants submit a video to WKDZ/WHVO to be considered for an “automatic finalist” position until 11:59 PM on September 9th. Up to four automatic finalists will be determined and notified prior to September 11th.

Video auditions can be uploaded by visiting CONTESTS at www.wkdzradio.com or www.whvoradio.com.

Hoptown Idol will offer an open mic session from 6:00-7:45 pm on contest night. Up to 4 finalists may be selected from the open mic sessions to compete in the next round “Sing Off” that will start around 8:15 pm. Up to 15 contestants will audition during open mic. Reservations for an open mic spot are available on a first-come basis that evening starting at 5:45 pm.

No more than 8 contestants will participate in the finals. Each contestant must sing a song in the finals different than their online submission song, or their first open mic song.

Up to three (3) contestants may be selected from the 8 finalists to compete for the title of 2024 Hoptown Idol. Again, a different song must be performed during the Sing Off and the Finals.

Hoptown Idol winner receives a $500 Grand Prize, to be awarded after the competition. Winner must be present at the competition to claim the Grand Prize. Winner will also receive a 2-hour professional recording session from The ARC Exhibit Studios at Hip Hoptown USA (Checking on this).

The Hoptown Idol Winner will be determined by a panel of judges whose votes will count for 70% of the score which will then be combined with the audience support to determine the Grand Prize recipient. So bring your supporters to cheer on the performance!

All contestants must be amateur entertainers (no paid recording contract).

Competition is for solo performances only.

Contestants may bring their own CD or thumb drive for DJ to play.

Contestants must complete an entry waiver on contest night prior to performing.

Contestants must be 10 years of age or older. Parent/guardian signature/permission required for contestants under 18.

Previous Hoptown Idol winners are not eligible to enter the competition.

All contestants must limit each performance to one song in the preliminaries. The performance will be no longer than 5:00.

Absolutely no vulgarity allowed in performances. DJ/promoters reserve the right to veto any song deemed inappropriate prior to performance.

Producers reserve the right to alter the final number of contestants and all contest rules to make for a smooth competition with the ultimate number of participants.

All participants give Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation and WKDZ/WHVO permission to use their name, photo, and video recording for any promotional activities.

All contest/judges’ results are final and are not subject to protest.
