The City of Hopkinsville on Tuesday night discussed taking a compensating rate on real property for the 2024-2025 tax season.
Chief Financial Officer Melissa Clayton told the City Council in order to meet print deadlines without a special called meeting, they would need to act.

click to download audioCrabtree made a motion to take the Compensating Rate of 20.9 cents per 100 dollars assessed value. It passed unanimously. The City will now advertise the rate before the council votes on the second reading.
The first reading on the tax rate is expected to happen on September 3.
In other business, the second reading of the downtown entertainment destination center ordinance passed and will now head to the state for approval before coming back to the council. A franchise agreement with Charter Cable Service, the owner of Spectrum, passed on first reading, as a recommendation from the Cable Oversight Authority Board. The agreement will keep the local office on Marie Drive open.
