After having to undergo season-ending surgery early in 2023, a return to the major leagues appears to be getting closer for a former Hopkinsville Tiger baseball standout. Over the weekend, Easton McGee made his second appearance for the Nashville Sounds, who are a Triple A affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers.

During his appearance Saturday night against Charlotte, McGee went three innings, giving up one run on four hits.

In his first trip to the mound for the Sounds on July 21st, McGee went two innings against Norfolk, giving up one run on three hits and striking out one.

He had made five other rehab appearances over the past few weeks before being called up to Nashville.

McGee signed a two-year deal with the Milwaukee Brewers in November after his release from the Seattle Mariners. McGee was with Seattle when he underwent Tommy John surgery in May, ending what was shaping up to be a very promising season.

The former Mr. Baseball from Hopkinsville High School took a no-hitter into the seventh inning of his first MLB start on April 29, getting a no decision in a 1-0 Seattle loss at Toronto. McGee retired the first 12 batters he faced before a walk to Matt Chapman to begin the fifth inning. He threw only 64 pitches and struck out two.

The Mariners said McGee was the first pitcher in team history to make a start of 6.2 scoreless innings while allowing one hit or less within his first two career games.

That start would be his only appearance for the Mariners as arm discomfort led to the discovery that season-ending surgery was needed.
