Officials with Trigg County Schools announced Wednesday another familiar face as the new assistant principal for Trigg County Intermediate.
Brandy King will begin her 21st year in education with promotion to this role.
She began her career as a college English teacher and writer, where she was recognized as one of the “New Women’s Voices in Poetry” by Kentucky’s Finishing Line Press — before transitioning to Trigg County Public Schools in August 2004.
There, she served as an 8th grade ELA teacher for Trigg County Middle and later as Trigg County High’s freshman English teacher for a combined total of 18 years, before turning to administration under its former principal, Brian Futrell, and the building’s former assistant, now current, Principal Lisa Bush.
King was guidance counselor at TCIS at the end of the 2023-2024 school year, following Kaye Stewart’s retirement, before accepting this position.
With a bachelor’s degree in English in literature and creative writing from Murray State University, she also has a terminal master of fine arts degree in creative writing from Goddard College, and a master’s degree and Rank I in instructional leadership with principal P-12 certification from Georgetown College.
Her husband, Jonathan, is an administrator in the Christian County Public Schools and a Trigg County native. With their three children, they are active members in the community and are members at Canton Baptist Church. Jordan and Carson are Trigg County graduates and former student-athletes, and the third, Corben, will begin his freshman year at TCHS — where he plays basketball and soccer.
In a written statement, King said she has dedicated her entire career to Trigg County, and understands “what it means to be a Wildcat.” She wants to continue focusing on increasing student achievement and literacy, and urged the public school classroom is “a microcosm of the real world.”
