The smell and smoke of BBQ filled Founders Square on Friday for Hopkinsville’s Sixth Annual Squealin’ on the Square.

Judged by a panel of six — including Edge Media’s own Bill Booth — six teams of pit-masters were hard at work all afternoon competing for the titles of best pork chops, pork ribs and chicken. Those teams were the Hopkinsville Fire Department; Knuckles BBQ; New Work Fellowship; G’s BBQ; Kinfolk Catering, with help from members of the Christian County High School Football Team, and BBQ on Wheels, with help from members of the Hopkinsville High School Football Team.

The final results were:

Best pork chops: BBQ on Wheels

Best pork ribs: Knuckles BBQ

Best chicken: New Work Fellowship

This year’s event also featured the Mayor’s Award, judged based on all categories, which was awarded to the Hopkinsville Fire Department.

After the judging portion ended, the community made their way to Founders Square for an evening of good food, great fun and beautiful weather. All six teams were able to share their BBQ and Xtraordinary Gentlemen also provided live music under the pavilion.

Congratulations to all winners and participants and special thanks to sponsor Huhtamaki and host Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation for making the Sixth Annual Squealin’ on the Square possible.
