NWS Storm Assessment Team Releases Preliminary Data On Multi-County Tornado

Officials with the National Weather Service in Paducah are reporting the tornado that touched down Sunday evening in Lyon County is at least a high-end EF-3.

According to information released Monday evening, officials found damage that would have been caused by a tornado with winds up to 165 MPH. They added due to severe tornado damage, a team of experts in structural engineering will be providing expertise in determining the tornado’s final rating.

The tornado touched down near Eddyville and appears to have remained on the ground until lifting near Earlington. The Hopkins County Coroner’s Office confirmed one death as a result of the storm, 48-year-old Sandra Eckard, of Carbondale Road. Eckard died as a result of multiple blunt-force trauma.
