Hopkinsville Woman Arraigned in Child Death Case

A Hopkinsville woman entered a not guilty plea in Christian County Circuit Court on Wednesday to a complicity to murder charge.

24-year-old Dakota Heck was indicted by a grand jury earlier this month. The true bill said Heck engaged in wanton conduct that created a grave risk to the child, identified by only initials on the indictment.

Public defender Doug Moore was entered as the attorney of record until Heck hired her counsel.

Her husband — Alexander Heck — was indicted last year on a murder charge in the same case. He was stationed at Fort Campbell at the time of the child’s death, with Heck’s commanding officer testifying during a bond reduction hearing last year the defendant was a “high-performance soldier” who was in charge of training his troop in how to properly prepare vehicles for transport by helicopters.

Police said the child, who was not related to Heck, died of blunt force trauma.

Dakota Heck is lodged in the Christian County Jail under a $150,000 cash bond with the couple scheduled to appear together in court for a pretrial conference next Wednesday.
