Assault Suspect Still Facing Possible Deportation

The man charged with a December 2022 stabbing on Witty Lane had an August trial date set although he may not be in the country to serve any punishment if convicted.

42-year-old Benito Bautista was charged with first-degree assault after Christian County Sheriff’s deputies said he stabbed a man with a knife several times.

During a Wednesday hearing in Christian County Circuit Court before Judge Andrew Self, Commonwealth’s Attorney Maureen Leamy said there would be an ICE hold placed on Bautista if he is released from custody which could see him returned to Mexico.
