Among the bills and appropriations passed last week by the Kentucky House of Representatives, Eighth District State Representative Walker Thomas is proud of some of the funding coming to our region.

Walker told Your News Edge that Caldwell County will benefit from monies approved in House Bill 1 and House Bill 6, including funding toward a new justice center.

Caldwell County will also receive over $1 million for a new roof for the Caldwell County Courthouse

Additionally, Christian County is set to receive $24 million in additional road funding in 2024, $16 million in 2025, and $30 million in 2026. Thomas added a study for Interstate 24 will be funded, as well.

Christian County will also see $100,000 in funding be awarded to the Western Kentucky State Fairgrounds, and $7 million in funding will go to Christian County Public Schools to help construct a new athletic field for the combined high school.

Thomas added there was some funding in the budget for veterans issues, which are quite important to him.

Governor Andy Beshear has through April 9, 2024 to possibly veto any of the budgetary line items or the entire budget, if he sees fit. Legislators will return to Frankfort on April 12, to have the chance to override any vetoes.
