Trigg County Preparing For Good Friday Crash Remembrance

Citizens and officials of Trigg County and Fort Campbell will turn toward somber remembrance during a 9 AM ceremony and ensuing groundbreaking Good Friday, March 29, at Vinson Cemetery.

Located at KY 272, mile marker 15 on U.S. 68/80, the site isn’t far from the location where, one year ago to that day, nine soldiers died after a pair of HH-60 Blackhawk helicopters collided during night maneuvers.

Judge-Executive Stan Humphries, and many interested parties, have been seeking a site for a proper memorial that extends further gratitude than the official highway sign on Maple Grove Road.

And that search has found its end.

Humphries added that a cobbled committee will bring some ideas together, not only bring that marker to fruition, but likely another close by honoring all of Trigg County’s military history.

Humphries said this effort will “cost a few dollars,” shifting it more into the “long-term project” category, but this will be the start.

Should weather not be favorable, all efforts will be moved to the Lexie Bush Convention Center at the Trigg County Recreation Complex.
