Funeral services for 86-year-old David “DBoyd” Spain of Hopkinsville will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 2, 2024 at Concord Baptist Church.

Burial will follow in Green Hill Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until the funeral hour.

Hughart, Beard & Giles Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

David “DBoyd” Spain, 86, of Hopkinsville, KY died at 12:28 a.m. Tuesday, February 27, 2024 at Jennie Stuart Medical Center.

A native of Christian County, KY he was born May 17, 1937 the son of the late David A. Spain and Erlene Boyd Spain. In 1956, David married his wife, Isabelle Spain. In 1959, he graduated from the University of Kentucky and returned to Christian County. After returning home from college, David focused on agriculture and accounting. In 1971, he was recognized by the Kentucky Young Farmers Association as “Farmer of the Year.” In 1973, he would go on to become President of the Kentucky Young Farmers Association. In 1975, he received the “Young Farmer Leadership Award” from Kentucky Farm Bureau.

David loved agriculture and used his degree and expertise in accounting to help his fellow farmer and his fellow neighbor. David was a founding member of Hopkinsville Elevator and served on the board of directors for 42 years. David was also one of the three original organizers of the Christian County Water District. David owned and operated Spain Tax & Accounting for over 60 years. David was a lifetime member of Concord Baptist Church where he served as a deacon.

In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his wife: Isabelle Spain; and two brothers: Robert Wayne “Bobby” Spain and Richard Charles “Tinker” Spain.

David is survived by his children: David C. (Debra) Spain of Hopkinsville, KY, LaDonna (David) Stanley of Louisville, KY, Jerri (Ronnie) Scruggs of Hopkinsville, KY, and Michael (Stacey) Spain of Hopkinsville, KY; his siblings: Mollie Spain and Susan Spain (Rev. Dr. David) Gardner both of Hopkinsville, KY, Robert Wayne (Barbara) Spain, Jr. of Christian County, KY, and Janie Spain (Scott) Ezell of Hopkinsville, KY; his grandchildren: Chris (Marsha) Spain, Ashley (Clint) Joiner, Matt (Aly) Stanley, Clay (Ashley) Stanley, Hillary (Wesley) Ball, Matthew (Emily) Spain, Sydney (Chris) Long, and Austin Juckett; and his great grandchildren: Ella Spain, Asher Spain, Hannah (Kenneth) Hyams, Caleb Spain, Alex Joiner, Keaton Joiner, Madi Joiner, Isabelle Stanley, Chloe Ball, Mason Spain, Isaiah Spain, Cooper Spain, Cameron Juckett, Kayden Long, and Madison Stanley.
