History on Tap Program to Feature Survivors of Slavery

The Museums of Historic Hopkinsville-Christian County will be hosting the next installment of its History on Tap program next Thursday, February 29.

Next week’s program will feature slavery survivors as part of Black History Month. Museum Executive Director Alissa Keller said Christian County has a significant history of slavery dating back to its earliest days. In 1934, local journalist Charles Meacham published short biographies of 25 African Americans who were once enslaved in the area, shedding light on a lesser-known aspect of our past and providing insight into the community’s history.

Current and former members of the Museum’s and Hopkinsville History Foundation’s Board of Directors will be sharing the stories of these individuals who endured so much.

History on Tap is a free series that aims to present local history in a casual and enjoyable setting. Next week’s program will be held at 6:30 at the downtown Hopkinsville Brewing Company.
