Dr. James Simpson, 79, of Hopkinsville

Dr. James H. Simpson, 79, of Hopkinsville, Kentucky died at 5:29 p.m., Sunday, February 18, 2024 at his home in Hopkinsville.

Funeral services will be private. Dogwood Funerals & Cremations is assisting with arrangements.

A native of Hopkinsville, Kentucky he was born on October 9, 1944 the son of the late James H. Simpson, Sr. and Mary Rogers Simpson Waggoner. After graduating from Christian County High School in 1962 he enrolled in Western Kentucky University and completed his Bachelor’s of Science in 1966. He then attended the University of Louisville Medical School and graduated in 1970. He entered the United States Navy in 1971 and served as a physician in the United States Navy Medical Corps, attaining the rank of Lieutenant Commander. After his Navy service he returned to Hopkinsville in 1973 and joined the family practice of Dr. Gerald McCord. He stayed there and ran his family medical practice until his retirement.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his son: William Barry Simpson; and brother: Glenn Simpson.

Survivors include his wife: Kimberly Simpson of Hopkinsville, Kentucky; sons: Jamey Simpson of Hopkinsville, Kentucky; Justin Simpson of Hopkinsville, Kentucky; and Steven Combs of Hopkinsville, Kentucky; daughters: Becky (Jeff) West of Hopkinsville, Kentucky; Kelly Gee of Hopkinsville, Kentucky; Nicole Goodman of Hopkinsville, Kentucky; and Stefanie Combs of Hopkinsville, Kentucky; sister: Janet Sanderson of Hopkinsville, Kentucky; 10 grandchildren and three great granddaughters.
