Christian County Recognizes Black History Month

This year Black History Month focuses on “African Americans and the Arts.” In recognition of the importance of lived experiences and cultural influences, Hopkinsville and Christian County presented the Human Rights Commission with a proclamation Tuesday night.

Hopkinsville Mayor JR Knight says this month is important.

click to download audioThe HRC is hosting several events highlighting Black History, including “Spirit of Harriet Tubman & An Evening with Leslie McCurdy” this Friday at the Alhambra Theatre and the annual Trivia Bowl next Saturday, February 17, at Hopkinsville Community College. A list of all events can be found on the Commission’s Facebook page.

Chambers was joined by other members of the Human Rights Commission to accept the proclamation.
