George Jackson Jr., 85, of Hopkinsville

George Elliott Jackson, Jr., age 85, of Hopkinsville, formerly of Nashville, TN, passed away Friday, February 2, 2024, at his home of natural causes.  Private graveside services are to be held at Spring Hill Cemetery in Nashville, TN.  Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home has been entrusted by the family with the care of their loved one. 

Mr. Jackson was born on October 26, 1939, in Nashville, TN, the son of the late George Elliott Jackson, Sr. and Mary Myrtle Sturdivant.  George retired from CSX Corp. after 33 years as a railroad engineer.  After retiring, George enjoyed traveling and volunteering.  He volunteered on bike rides with the Nashville Ham Radio Club and excursions with The Tennessee Central Railroad Museum, especially with “Thomas the Tank Engine.”  At the Martin Center, he enjoyed greeting new members at the front desk, “wine tasting dinners”, playing pool, and being Santa Claus each year.  

George was a member of the Nashville Amateur Ham Radio Club, Nashville Red Cross, Doric Masonic Lodge #732 F & AM, Tennessee Central Railroad Museum, and The Martin Center in Brentwood, TN. He was also a proud veteran who served in the United States Marines Corps. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Becky Jackson McCullough; his brothers, James Sturdivant and Larry Franklin Jackson; and his grandson, John McCullough.

Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Bettye Hill Jackson of Hopkinsville, KY formally of Nashville, TN; his daughter, Pamela Sue Jackson Neely, of Hopkinsville; his grandchildren, April Neely McLean (Jason), Matthew Neely (Tabitha), Harmony “Nikki” Kreiss; and his great-grandchildren, Elliot Mcclean, Joey Kreiss, and Tori Kreiss.
