Kentucky’s next Commissioner of Agriculture Jonathan Shell was officially sworn in at a ceremony in Lancaster at the Garrard County Courthouse on Monday.
Shell, surrounded by friends and family, said as he took the oath of office “Food. Faith. Family. These three words sum up Kentucky Agriculture.” He added they are what our farmers focus on every day. Shell said he was “honored by the opportunity to serve our state as Ag Commissioner and he’s ready to get to work fighting for our farm families and our Kentucky values.”
Among those in attendance to mark the beginning of Shell’s term was United States Congressman and Chair of the U.S. House’s Oversight Committee, James Comer.
Shell, a fifth-generation farmer, becomes Kentucky’s 36th Commissioner of Agriculture. He will also participate in a public swearing-in ceremony on Tuesday, January 2, at the State Capitol.
