Court Awaiting Mental Evaluation in East 18th Street Murder Case

Attorneys have been waiting since August to get a mental health evaluation completed on a Hopkinsville man charged in a May shooting.

Earl Guillemet is charged with the May death of Delores Hernandez, who was found shot inside an East 18th Street home.

Surveillance video in the area provided to police showed a truck driven by Guillemet, who was also reportedly seen throwing away items while on the move by witnesses.

At Wednesday morning’s Christian County Circuit Court hearing, Guillemet’s attorney — Ramon McGee of Louisville — said they are still trying to get the assessment done by the Kentucky Correctional Psychiatric Center. This was a process that was begun in August but hasn’t been fulfilled.

click to download audioMcGee has sought funding for the evaluation through KCPC, which Circuit Judge John Atkins said is considerably backlogged and busy. However, the judge still expressed frustration at the pace of the process.

According to court records, Guillemet has been a convicted felon since 1997. The gun in question was recovered by police, and he’s also charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and tampering with physical evidence in addition to murder.
