Commonwealth Recommends 24 Years For Trigg County’s Streeval

In exchange for a guilty plea, Trigg County man Montie Streeval saw his three-year wait for a ruling end Friday afternoon in Eddyville’s Lyon County Judicial Center.

Originally indicted by a Trigg County grand jury and charged for the 2020 murder and body disposal of 25-year-old Powderly native Cameron Phillips, Streeval instead will consecutively serve nine years for possession of a hand gun by a convicted felon, and 15 years for first degree manslaughter, with all other charges dismissed.

Circuit Judge Jamus Redd presided.

Both the Commonwealth and conflict defense attorney Olivia Adams — Streeval’s sixth since his case opened — had actually agreed to an amended “complicity of murder” charge in recent days, before manslaughter became the clear path to conviction.

In Kentucky, manslaughter is a Class B felony that carries with it a 10-to-20-year penalty.

Redd presented key questions to Streeval, making doubly sure the plea was so.

On, or between, July 28-29, 2020, Trigg County officials located Phillips’ body near a Trigg County cemetery. It’s been indicated that a drug exchange went awry, leading to Phillips’ death.

Streeval was indicted and arrested in October that same year, and had since seen his legal team and trial dates changed for a litany of reasons — including COVID-19, turnover in the public defender’s office and other unforeseen circumstances.

Streeval listed his Trigg County address as one from the South Road. He is to be formally sentenced at 9 AM January 10, 2024, in Cadiz. A January 2024 jury trial has been canceled.
