Jennie Stuart Health has a newborn hearing screener that was dedicated recently to the memory of Dr. Ron Howard.

The new screener will measure how well a baby’s hearing nerve and brain respond to sound. Soft earphones are used to transmit clicks or tones into the baby’s ears. Under Kentucky law, all babies are required to receive a hearing test before being discharged from the hospital.

All memorial contributions to the NICU and the well-baby nursery at Jennie Stuart Medical Center received on behalf of Dr. Howard helped to provide the new screener.

Dr. Howard began practicing medicine in Cadiz in 1967 and completed his Pediatric Residency at the University of Tennessee at Memphis. He returned to Kentucky in 1970 and practiced pediatric Medicine in Hopkinsville for 40 years before retiring in 2011. He died in January 2022.

During the dedication, a plaque was unveiled in the viewing area of the NICU and well-baby nursery with Dr. Howard’s family in attendance.
