Registration Underway For 2023 Turkey Trot

Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation has announced that registration is now open for the 2023 Turkey Trot, Hopkinsville’s Annual Thanksgiving 5K.

Rachel Sanders, the Marketing and Events Coordinator, says individuals of all ages and speeds, including walkers, runners, joggers, skaters, bikers, and even leashed dogs, are welcome to participate in the 3.1-mile race. She indicates the Turkey Trot is a non-competitive, non-timed race, and free for all participants. Registration is encouraged and will remain open until Thursday, November 9th.

According to Sanders, the Turkey Trot is scheduled to start at 8:00 on Thanksgiving morning, Thursday, November 23rd. The starting point of the race is on Main Street, and the course meanders through various sections of Downtown Hopkinsville and the Hopkinsville Greenway Rail Trail. She says participants will have the opportunity to purchase a souvenir race shirt for $25 during the registration process with proceeds to benefit the Hopkinsville Greenway Rail Trail.

In the past two decades, Sanders says the Turkey Trot 5K has grown, drawing in 1,200 to 1,500 participants and garnering support from numerous community sponsors. It has evolved into a family tradition for many community members, who enjoy a Thanksgiving morning filled with active engagement in downtown Hopkinsville.
