Grimes Sentenced To 15 Years For 2021 Hazel Street Shooting

A Hopkinsville man was sentenced to 15 years in prison in connection to a shooting death on Hazel Street over two years ago.

Leon Grimes entered a guilty plea in July to amended charges of second-degree manslaughter and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon with the Commonwealth recommending 15 years in prison.

Grimes was charged with the July 4, 2021, shooting death of 28-year-old Calvin Buckner at a Hopkinsville party on Hazel Street.

Family members of Buckner appeared before the bench alongside Commonwealth’s Attorney Stephanie Bolen, who read the court a letter from his mother.
