Oak Grove’s 14th Annual Butterfly Festival Set For Saturday

More than 2,000 butterflies will begin their migration from the Viceroy berm in Oak Grove to Mexico Saturday afternoon, when they are released at the conclusion of the highly-anticipated 14th Annual Butterfly Festival.

But from 11 AM until the wispy uncaging, Oak Grove Tourism’s Scarlett Mayfield said families will be able to visit 101 Walter Garrett Lane for free adventures of all kinds.

Expected to be the largest iteration of the festival in some time, the weather should be perfect: sunny skies, and temperatures in the mid-80s.

Mayfield added that visitors and kids can expect not only those train rides, zip lines, face paintings, balloon artist, greenscreen photo shoots and a bubble zone, but other new activities.

Families will also be able to once again get up close and personal to live cocoons, caterpillars and butterflies in the “Butterfly House” — provided by Milkweed & Honey Farms out of Clarksville.

As for the releasing of the butterflies, Mayfield noted it’s an extremely unique process how it all comes together.

And people have to be really quick with their photography and videography, before the insects start making their long trek down south to avoid the winter months.

In a written statement, Oak Grove Tourism Commission Executive Director Traci Cunningham called Saturday “more than just a celebration of the winged wonders.”

“It’s an invitation for all of us to reconnect with nature, and appreciate the intricate beauty surrounding us.”
