Freeman Dallas, 86 of Hopkinsville

Freeman B. Dallas, Jr., age 86, of Hopkinsville, passed away on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, at Alive Hospice in Nashville, TN of natural causes.

Visitation and Funeral Services will be held at Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home beginning at 10:30 AM on Thursday, August 31, 2023, with Reverend Roy King officiating. Funeral Services will begin promptly at 11:00 AM. Immediately following the service, burial with Full Military Honors will be at Kentucky Veterans Cemeterv-West.

Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home has been entrusted by the family to handle the arrangements. 

Freeman was born on January 19, 1937, in Fulton, KY, the son of the late Freeman Burnham Dallas and Anna Louise Buckingham. He retired after 20 years of military service in the US Army, serving 16 of those years at Ft. Campbell with the 101st Airborne Division. Major Dallas was deployed twice to the Vietnam War and was awarded 3 Bronze Stars with V Devices, a Cross of Gallantry with Silver Star, and 2 Purple Hearts. He then served for over 30 years as a Federal Employee with the Division and Blanchfield Army Community Hospital. As a Master Parachutist, his career included many military and freefall parachute jumps. He was a member of Bridge of Hope Fellowship, a founding member of the 3rd Battalion (Airborne) 506th Infantry, inducted as a Distinguished Member of the Regiment (2022), and a lifetime member of the 101st Airborne Division Association.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Freeman B. Dallas, Ill, and his grandson, Edward A. Ritter, II. He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Nancy J. Dallas of Hopkinsville, KY; his daughters, Lynda Ann Lister and her Husband Mike Lister of El Paso, TX, and Debra J. Staker of Lexington, Indiana, and his stepdaughter, Nicole King of Hopkinsville, KY; his sons, Michael R. Dallas of Indiana, and Steven A. Dallas and his wife Kathy of Clarksville, TN; and his brother, Joe Dallas and his wife Jonda of Paducah, KY. His legacy includes 5 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren: (grandchildren) Amy Leigh Ritter, Christopher J. Lister, Molly Dallas, and Nick Dallas; (great-grandchildren) Cameron J. Lister, Ian T. Lister, Nathan Neal, and Sophia Ritter.
