For the last decade, Lone Star Rodeo and the Christian County Cattleman’s Association have been able to collaborate for the “Remarkable Rodeo” — a celebration focused on bringing a unique experience for special needs children in the community.
That tradition continued Friday morning at the Western Kentucky Fairgrounds, where from 9:30 AM until noon kids and their families got to enjoy bounce houses, a petting zoo, karaoke, hayrides, face painting, roping demonstrations, and an abbreviated version of the real deal.
Rachel Boyd, rodeo manager “do-it-all” for Lone Star, said everything comes together so well for the community.
Boyd also noted that Lone Star and the Cattleman’s Association have had a 13-year relationship, and that it took little-to-no convincing to bring this special-needs extravaganza to Christian County — especially after seeing how successful it had been elsewhere around the country.
Rodeos can be quite rowdy. It’s bulls and blood, it’s dust and mud, and it’s the roar of a Sunday crowd.
And as such, Boyd said this smaller setting was perfect for these families, who might be seeking a calmer, less stimulating situation.
As for the full-bore experience, Boyd said gates open at 5:30 PM Friday and Saturday, with both shows planned to begin at 7:30 PM.
Kids events for those 10 and under start at 7 PM, and she said regular and new visitors alike should expect something new.
Tickets are $20 for adults, $12 for those aged 4-to-12, and can be bought online or at the gate with cash or card.
