Christian County School Board Approves Teacher Education Incentive

The Christian County Board of Education is embracing alternative paths to teaching.

Thursday night, the School Board approved two versions of contracts that will allow individuals to choose teaching as a second career, not straight out of college.

Superintendent Chris Bentzel says the program is designed to help curb the teacher shortage.

click to download audioHe also asked the School Board to approve a contract for classified to certified staff, who will only have to cover the cost of a third of their bachelor’s degree.

click to download audioThe participants agree to work for the district for four years following the finish of their degree and the debt will be forgiven. There is a wait list for the program now and a few spots left for current classified staff.
