Severe storms Friday afternoon and evening caused several thousand electric customers to lose electricity and downed some trees.

According to damage reports received by Your Weather Edge, numerous trees and electric lines went down, especially in the Crofton area of northern Christian County. Trees were also reported down in Cadiz and Hopkinsville. Thunderstorm winds also damaged some roofs across the region.

Dawson Springs reported quarter-inch-sized hail during the severe storms.

At the height of the storm, nearly 5,000 Pennyrile Electric members were without electricity. Hopkinsville Electric System crews worked through the evening and Saturday morning restoring power across its service area.

The risk of severe weather continues Saturday, as the region is under an “enhanced risk” for severe storms. The National Weather Service in Paducah reports that scattered to numerous strong to severe thunderstorms will develop Saturday afternoon and evening, with damaging wind gusts (some over 70 mph possible) and large hail being the main threats. Some locations may see multiple rounds of storms.

High temperatures will again reach the middle to upper 90s Saturday, with heat index values over 105 possible, though clouds and storm development may provide some relief from the worst of the heat.
